MIDNIGHT RUNNERS

Genre: South Korean Action/ Comedy

Rating: 4/5

Park Ki-Joon and Kang Hee-Yeol are two young police academy cadets who have no strong willing desire to become police officers other than perceiving the career as a source of future income.

Craving for time out from their strenuous academic routines as demanded by the police university, they take a night off to go into the city. What they do not expect is becoming witnesses to a woman's kidnapping and no one to help rescue the victim but themselves. Confronted with their conscience and their moral ethics as future police officers, they take it upon themselves to rescue the woman. What ensues is a string of funny wacky attempts to free the victim from an organized criminal gang.

Mind you, the movie isn't a side-splitting comedy. It's a simple story with a buddy-cop theme you'd probably seen somewhere else. However, it is this simplicity and the charm of the two actors that adds appeal to the movie and I found myself with a smile plastered on my face all the way to the end.

It's a fun, light-hearted, leave-your-brains-at-the-door movie I'd probably watch again as a means for stress relief.
